This 5 day course aims to give you a fully comprehensive training course, providing the perfect development opportunity for those preparing for their BCAB / Paddle UK Canoe White Water Leader Award. Delivered by experienced providers and national trainers for the award: Adam Robson and Matt Haydock, working with low ratios, you'll get the high quality individualised coaching in the following key areas: personal skills on Grade 2(3) white water, safety and rescue skills, traditional skills (poling, lining, tracking), and leadership behaviours and strategies centred around the Paddle UK Leadership model.
Included in the course will be the 2 day BCAB Paddle UK White Water Safety Course, as well as the opportunity to gain a Paddle UK Personal Performance Award (Progressive Canoe Award).
The course will be based in Northern England, with Penrith as a good central base, giving us good access to the rivers of both the Lake District, Galloway and Teesdale.
Here's an outline itinerary for the course, which will be subject to change depending on water levels and conditions:
Day 1: Personal Skills Coaching Day on Grade 2(3) white water - we'll aim to give you a great understanding of the level required, and provide some individualised coaching to level up your paddling
Day 2: Leadership Behaviours: a day centred around what makes good quality leadership to provide paddlers with the best experience possible, centred around the Paddle UK leadership model of Vision/Support/Challenge.
Day 3 & 4: BCAB White Water Safety Course
Day 5: A day with mock students bringing it all together, an opportunity to get hands on experience and practice leading a group with support and developmental feedback.
To get the most from the course you'll be comfortable and confident paddling Grade 2 white water.
As well as gaining a White Water Safety certificate and a personal performance award, you'll leave the course with a clear picture of the standard required for Canoe WW Leader, what the assessment involves, and a comprehensive action plan for your journey to assessment. You'll also get continued ongoing mentoring support from both Matt and Robson, and your new found paddling friends / aspirant leaders.
