Intro to Canoe Sailing Day
Canoe sailing is often a small part of leadership and skills courses which briefly touch on the subject as the programmes have so much in them. This means that often the various methods are discussed or introduced with no real substance or time to explore or practice.
This day is all about harnessing the wind in several different ways, exploring which ones we like best and which are the most suitable for different situations or conditions.
You are welcome to bring any sailing equipment you might already have but all you really need is your canoe, paddle and regular equipment. Poles, sails and rigging equipment will all be provided.
During the course we will cover:
-
Simple Downwind Sailing
-
Rafted A-Frame Sailing
-
Solo Sailing
-
Outfitting Our Canoe For Sailing
-
Equipment Required
-
Predicting & Understanding the Wind
-
Safety Considerations

This is aimed at solo or tandem paddlers who are confident paddling but have little or no canoe sailing experience who would like to get a feel for what it's all about and to understand the options available. If you're not sure please do get in touch and we can chat, maybe there is another course that is more suitable to your needs.
Any Additional Costs?
Depending on the venue, there may be launch fees or parking to pay. I'll let you know what this is in advance. Rutland Water Lauch Fee is £25 for the day.
