This comprehensive 5 day training course covers the syllabus and content for both the BCAB Advanced Canoe Open Water Leader and Advanced Canoe White Water Leader awards.

Includes an in depth look at leadership principles, safety and rescue strategies as well as performance skill development coaching from experienced providers and national trainers, with international experience.

The week will play to the strengths of the forecasted wind, rainfall and water levels which are available, to utilise the very best venues and learning environments.  We shall also aim for a night paddle and navigation exercise (as per the syllabus), which may include a camp out, depending on weather and group desires.

You will leave the course with a clear and structured action plan to support your journey towards assessment.

There'll also be an opportunity to gain a BCAB Personal Peformance Award if desired.

During the five days we will look at:

  • Personal paddling skills fit for the environment

  • Trip planning, understanding and predicting conditions

  • Leadership tactics & strategy

  • Decision making

  • Navigation and paddling in reduced visibility

  • Traditional skills such as poling, sailing, tracking and lining

  • Rescue skills and techniques

This course will be run by Adam Robson and Dave Janes, both extremely experienced advanced canoe coaches who still lead regularly in the advanced environments.
