Aimed at kayakers looking towards paddling grade two

Whitewater Kayak River Skills Week

20230803_112454.jpg

This week long course based in northern England is for anyone who is in the early stages of their whitewater kayaking adventure and wants to progress their skills and confidence to where you can start feeling more in control on grade two.

Because we have five days there is no need to rush, the first day will be spent on flat water, probably one of the Lake District's stunning lakes, revisiting, tweaking and deepening our understanding of core skills. We'll also look at some new skills in this closed environment which will allow help us when we take the step up to moving water.

As the week progresses we'll move to simple moving water venues allowing us time to practice, repeat, analyse our performance and gradually increase the challenge as we progress.

Towards the end of the week we'll run some grade 2 river trips which will allow us to put all of our new skills into action and start looking at some tactics to keep us and our group together and in control.

During the week you can expect:

  • Consolidation of core skills

  • Individualised challenge and feedback

  • Practice and play within a controlled moving water environment

  • Exploration of outfitting and boat design

  • Grade Two River Days

This is a five-day course. We’ll normally meet at 9am and aim to be off the river before 4pm

What do you provide?

Five days of expert guiding and coaching tailored to the group and with emphasis on enjoyment. This course doesn’t include equipment but I may be able to help with certain items, feel free to ask and I’ll see what I can do.

Bouyancy Aid, Helmet & Spraydeck

Personal Medication

Is this suitable for me?

This is aimed at paddlers with a little moving water experience looking to improve their skills & confidence, paddle new rivers, and have a positive and fun experience. If you're not sure please do get in touch and we can chat, maybe there is another course that is more suitable to your needs

Where can I stay?

I recommend Penrith as a central point giving us good access to the A66 / M6 Corridors. I normally put everyone in touch beforehand to give you the option to share lifts and book somewhere communal. I’ve got a few recommendations too.

Newby Court in Newby near Penrith is a great self catering option and Kirkby Stephen Youth Hostel is also very reasonably priced.
