Intermediate Whitewater Canoe Week

Five Days of Learning and Playing on Grade Two Rivers

20221019_134021.jpg

This is a real opportunity to gain quality experience and really develop yourself as a paddler with expert coaching and guidance. We'll aim to paddle a different venue each day, making the most of the conditions and challenging ourselves as is appropriate.

Some days will be based at a static venue with lots of opportunity for practice and play with challenges & feedback, others will involve river trips where we'll journey through the environment; running rapids and taking opportunities here and there to play, practice maneuvers, surf waves and re-run some rapids.

The emphasis for this week is on your experience and whilst there certainly is no set syllabus during the week there may be the opportunity to work on the following:

  • Consolidating Core Skills

  • Surfing Waves

  • Equipment & Outfitting Choices

  • Whitewater Skills for Grade Two Rivers

  • Making Tactical Choices

  • Safe Group Paddling Strategies

  • Traditional Canoe Skills (Poling, Tracking & Lining)

FAQs

Where do we meet?

To make the best use of water and weather conditions, the exact venue will be decided day to day, this is normally a dropped pin shared in a whatsapp group chat.

How long are the days?

This is a five-day course. We’ll normally meet at 9am and aim to be off the river before 4pm

What do you provide?

Five days of expert guiding and coaching tailored to the group and with emphasis on enjoyment. This course doesn’t include equipment but I may be able to help with certain items, feel free to ask and I’ll see what I can do.

What do I need to bring?

Open canoe with bouyancy & swimlines

Paddle & Spare

Bouyancy Aid & Helmet

Is this suitable for me?

This is aimed at paddlers with some grade two experience looking to paddle new rivers whilst improving their skills & confidence. If you're not sure please do get in touch and we can chat, maybe there is another course that is more suitable to your needs

Where can I stay?

Assuming you agree, we'll have a Whatsapp group chat with everyone in, this will allow you to potentially share lifts & book accommodation as a group which helps keep costs down and reduces our impact on the environment. We'll also use this to share photos and videos taken during the course. Check out the recommendations page in the menu for a few suggestions.
